Arnout Lems

Dutch baritone Arnout Lems received his master’s degree in 2002 from The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he studied with Sasja Hunnego, Diane Forlano and Christina Deutekom. In the same year he finished his studies in Metz with Udo Reinemann. Over the past ten years he has built up great expertise in both early music, as a member of the renaissance ensemble Cappella Pratensis, and in contemporary music with Romain Bischoff’s VocaalLAB Nederland. As a soloist he has worked with Dutch orchestras and ensembles including Orkest De Volharding, Het Noord-Nederlands Orkest, Cobla Principal De Amsterdam, Nederlands Bachensemble, the Ives Ensemble and the Doelenensemble, and also with international groups such as Klangart Berlin, les Percussions de Strasbourg and Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart. Contemporary operas in which Arnout has performed include Curlew River by Benjamin Britten, Colourful Penis by Maria de Alvear and De Waterman (leading role) by Hans Koolmees. Among future engagements are Koning Willem II (Tilburg 2009), Three Awakenings by Annelies van Parys (Theater Transparant, Antwerp 2010) and Empty Cradle by Seung-Ah Oh (Dordrecht 2010).
